Daniel Martin: #1 Rated ATH in Class of 2022
Daniel Martin isn’t your typical 8th grade football player. On the field, the 6’2, 171 pounder plays running back, wide receiver, middle linebacker, and defensive end. He leads North Gwinnett in tackles, sacks, yards, and touchdown. This season, he’s been primarily running back for the Bulldogs.
“it’s going good. I’ve been scoring two to three touchdowns each game,” he said of the transition.
Last Saturday night versus Dacula, Martin had two touchdowns and over 100 rushing yards.
“I’ve been proud of playing a different position and not being upset about it,” Martin said. “It’s been a little hard because I have to learn the new plays.”
According to Martin, he still likes playing wide receiver.
“I like running routes and I like one on ones because I have an advantage on most DB’s,” he said. “I still play wide receiver when we need 4th downs.”
Martin said playing running back has its advantage though.
“I touch the ball more. I’m pretty fast,” Martin said. “I’m good at running back and wide receiver. Whatever is best for the team.”
With a successful season so far, going to the championship is a personal goal for Martin.
“We’re good. We’re 4-1 this year,” Martin said. “My goal is to keep my two to three touchdowns streak. Hopefully we go to the championship and win this year.”
Martin said he looks forward to playing Peachtree Ridge most.
“When we did play them, they won,” Martin said of the Lions. “I know a lot of players on that team. I just want to play them again because I feel our team has gotten better and we could beat them.”
With a few years left until college begins, the 15-year-old says Oregon is his favorite team.
“I like how they run plays with speed,” he said. “How they train players, their facilities, and their uniforms.”
