Cameron Cainion is a two-way athlete shining on offense and defense at Woodward Academy. He lights up the field as a running back and defensive back. The promising class of 2022 star is an exceptional talent that fuels on competition. “I know I’m not the biggest and the fastest but I give it my all and shut my man down. If I believe I can do it, there’s no reason I can’t”, Cainion told Born to Compete. “My goal for this season was to go undefeated and although we fell short of that finishing 5-2, we accomplished a lot by winning football games and growing our team bond together”.

Cainion has the potential to be an elite DB at the next level in the future. Asked about his role at defensive back, he brought insight into playing the position. “It’s hard to put in words but as the game goes on you notice the receiver’s tendencies. Once you figure it out you shut those down and make him do something he’s not used to doing”. His play-recognition on defense combined his talent has coaches at Woodward excited about his future.

Cainion is a spark on offense, too. In a game against Holy Innocents, Cainion made a huge run that turned momentum in Woodward Academy’s favor.” We didn’t score on that play but it got our offense going and we won that game”, Cainion added. Showing off his versatility, Cainion scored on a touchdown reception against Westminster a few weeks later. He caught the ball in the flat, stiffed arm the defensive back on the outside, and ran into the end-zone for the touchdown.

Cainion was among the best 8th players in the state of Georgia and was selected to compete in the FBU National Championships. “My favorite play all year was the post-season interception against Maryland playing for the FBU Georgia team”, he said. “The stop I made late in that game on fourth down to seal the win was amazing”, added Cainion. “It was fourth down and we needed a stop. I love playing DB right now. Those interceptions feel real nice”.

Cainion will be a key contributor for the Woodward Academy football program in the years to come. “I’d love to play a few snaps of varsity next year. I want to play against bigger, faster, stronger competition to get the high school experience”, he added. “I would love to bring a state championship to Woodward. I want to be in that Mercedes Benz Stadium feeling the atmosphere knowing I’m a winner. I need to get faster and stronger; those are some of my goals moving into next season”, explained Cainion.
