Tyasha Harris is a dynamic 8th Grader out of Noblesville, IN. This basketball and track star has been dominating the competition in Indiana since the 1st Grade.

Tyasha currently plays basketball for an elite travel basketball program called Best Choice. Two years ago, she started running track for her school. Her events are the 100m, 200m & anchor on the 4x100M relay. Her success on the track is starting to gain interest from several AAU track teams in the Central Indiana area.

In basketball, she helped her team win the 2008 AAU D2 National Championship. Her team also finished Fourth in the 2010 AAU D1 Nationals and won the 2011 D1 Nationals. On the track, she has finished undefeated in all 3 of her events (100m, 200m & 4x100m) this year. Tyasha was named to the All-star team while participating in the USJN MidAmerica Challenge in 2010. She was the youngest camp invitee last year at the IU Elite Camp ran by former Coach Felicia Jack, which she received the “Best Attitude” award. She also received MVP at the Danny Granger Elite Camp.

Her favorite athlete is Skylar Diggins because she likes her competitive spirit and her desire to get better every day.

Tyasha has a few colleges on her radar. The schools on her list are Notre Dame, UCONN, Minnesota, Indiana, Kentucky, Penn State, Ohio State, Northern Illinois, University of Evansville and University of Detroit Mercy, which has also shown interest in her. Once she attends college, her course of study will be Sociology & Kinesology.

She would love a be a WNBA Player, involved in the criminal science field, or a physical therapist when she grows up.

Tyasha trains with Best Choice coaching staff several times a week, two days a week are speed and agility and strength and conditioning, while spending the rest of her training time focusing on improving her basketball skills. She also has personal training sessions with Living Empowered Sports to improve on her individual skills.

Tyasha would like everyone to know that through GOD all things are possible. She is grateful to god to be blessed with athletic ability to compete at a very high level for one of the top basketball teams in the country; Best Choice is a Christian based travel basketball program. She really enjoys her team and the opportunities that they have given her to learn about mentoring and basketball.

This well rounded athlete will definitely make her mark in athletics and society. Keep up the great work!

There is increasing concern for the safety of youth football players. The main concern is the effect that concussions have on your body. NFL Communications released this statement:

"The initiative will remove helmets that are 10 years old or older and replace them with new helmets at no cost to the beneficiary leagues and will provide coaches with the latest educational information to help keep their young athletes safer and healthier.

In its first year, the program is being piloted in four markets: the California Bay Area, Gulf Coast region, Northern Ohio, and the tri-state region around New York City. The NFL, NFLPA, NCAA and NOCSAE have committed a combined total of approximately $1 million to the program in its first year. The pilot program is designed to provide valuable information on the state of youth football helmets, including the number of helmets 10 years old or older in use. As of 2012, NAERA members will no longer recondition or recertify any helmet that is 10 years of age or older. NOCSAE will collect the helmets when removed and use them for ongoing research programs."

Helmets do not prevent concussions, but they certainly help protect against them. the Helmet Replacement Program will educate coaches on the following points:

-- "Start with Safety": Concussion awareness and response information, featuring links to CDC content and resources

-- "Perfect Fitting": Helmet fitting information, including links to manufacturer-specific fitting resources

-- "Tackle Safety": USA Football's Tackle Progression Model and Levels of Contact information and videos

-- "Helmet Condition": Reconditioning and replacement information
