HOSCHTON, GA — The girls took over the track as well at the 2013 USATF Georgia Championships. Mill Creek High School housed some of our nation’s best, all wanting a chance to show why they deserve to make it to the Junior Olympic Games.
8U Division
The 100M featured Mya McRae of Sequoyah Youth Track winning with a time of 15.04. Sydney Harris of the Jackrabbit Track Club would continue her reign as queen of the 200M and 400M, setting a national record in the 400M with a time of 1:10.46. Brooke Fung Chung of the Mark Trail Flying Eagles would finish second in the 1500M behind Peyton Runyan from the Etowah Youth Track Club.
The Long Jump would feature a first and second place finish from two girls who should be very familiar to each other. Sydney Harris and Mya McRae took over the long jump with measurements of 3.84, a new national record, and 3.42 respectively.
10U Division
Congrats goes to Anisa Williams of Marietta Pal, Kali Terza of Etowah Youth Track, and Jayla Brown of Exchange Zone for their victories in the 100M, 200M, and 400M respectively.
What a day that DaShana Morris of the Cougar Track Club had! She blew away her competition with pull away victories in the 800M and 1500M. This 2012 national 1500M champion was on a mission.
12U Division
Kaylah Lumsden of Impact Athletics would take home the gold in the 100M and 200M, edging out Kyleeyah Hodge of the Atlanta Lightening in the 100M by .01 seconds.
The 400M race would be another close one. Emoni Coleman of Impact Athletics barely beats Jasmine Jones of Jackrabbit Track to the line. But, Emoni would not stop there. The 800M finish would resemble the 400M, with Emoni winning over Tenae’ Grigsby of Premier Athletics by .14 seconds. Tenae’ would bounce back in the 1500M, winning the race with a time of 5:01.50.
The Pentathlon featured a battle between Daysha Polite of Sapphire-Ruff Ryders Track and Samyzia Sears of the Columbus Blaze. Samyzia would win 3 out of 5 events, but would fall short to Daysha by only 16 points.
14U Division
Keep an eye out for this division, especially the 100M and 200M. Two champions, Tia Jones of Full Throttle and Candice Hill of Dynamic Speed finished first and second in both events. The 100M winner, Candice Hill won with a time of 11.97. Tia would return the favor in the 200M with a time of 24.24. Looks like the stands will be packed the next time that these two race!
Kennedy Simon and Kennedy Quarles of Gazelle were back to their winning ways, taking home the gold and silver in the 400M respectively. Alexis Jones of the Smyrna Track Club would win the 800M. Mackenzie Ellison of Exchange Zone would win the 1500M with a time of 5:07.53. Kira Stanley of the Kennworth Track Club would bounce back from her second place finish in the 1500M to win the 3000M
The 100M and 200M Hurdles would belong to Tia Jones, setting new national records in both events. She would continue to take her talents to the Pentathlon, to take home the gold by winning 4 out of 5 of her events.
Congratulations to all of those who had a chance to compete. The track was fast, the energy high.
