B2C Championship Series Day 2 Recap
Last year teams that came from outside of Georgia didn’t have as much success as they would like, this year the out of state teams have faired well as the Maryland Rhinos and Kingman Green Machine came to play. The Rhinos were dominate against a very good Newrock team with their unorthodox offensive scheme. It forces the defense to play assignment football, Newrock wasn’t able to make the adjustments and that hurt them bad as the Rhinos walked away with a big victory and a chance to advance into the next round. Kingman Green Machine was in an absolute war with the Kennesaw Mustangs. Kennesaw might have the best player at 8U or at least one of the best as he put in a heck of a performance on the big stage. It came down to the last minute of the game and Kingman was able to squeak out a one point victory in a B2C INSTANT CLASSIC against a Kennesaw team that left it all on the field. I must say I think next year Kennesaw is going to be one of the top teams in the state hands down. I looked at each one of those kids after the game and saw tears in their eyes because they wanted it so bad, they worked so hard and they just came up short. But with that means Coach Terry has something to work with and the Mustangs will be ready in 2015.
Central Dekalb Blue stays alive for one more night as they were able to knock off Redan in another nail bitter. Central Dekalb Blue considered as a very good team that just didn’t put it together during the season has gotten hot at just the right time. Now they will play their SCFL rivals the Fayette County Blue Devils. I will make sure to have a front row seat for this one. One thing to remember, only one team has ever won the B2C Championship from the Wildcard spot and that was the McDonough Cougars in 2012 and that was one of the best Championship Series run to date besides when Forsyth won it at 10U with victories over the Atlanta Vikings and Central Dekalb. It will be interesting to see if Coach Blackwell and his Jaguars team can keep the party going for at least one more day.
Then of course there is the game that everyone wanted to see and that was Welcome All Blue vs Welcome All Black. Even though Welcome All Black had a great season it is something about the Welcome All Blue team that has them on a mission. Last year they took a loss to a very good Acworth team in the Championship Series semifinals. Welcome All Black just ran into a team that was motivated and had been on the big stage before. Welcome All Blue controlled the game from start to finish. Welcome All Black will continue to get better as they have a very young coaching staff, so their in game adjustment will get better as they learn how to game plan and recognize weakness in their opponents in game and pre game but all that takes time. For Welcome All Blue it was the same story as they play a very physical style of defense and on offense they live and die by last years B2C Offensive Player of the Year #24 who once again put on a show when the lights shinned brightest.
