TEAM OF THE WEEK:
Harrison and Buford
The season is starting to take shape now as the B2C State Championship Series was announced that it is going to be November 26/27 for the 8th Grade Division.
The GFL had the featured matchup this past weekend as Buford and Grayson played. As good as Grayson is Buford looked that much better on Saturday night. Even though Grayson came to compete Buford controlled the entire game. Their defensive line played lights out as Grayson wasn’t able to get their running game going all night long. Buford would end up winning 21-0 as they put themselves way out in front of the rest of the competition in the GFL. Grayson will be able to rebound and look to make a run over the second half of the season. A team that no one is talking about in the GFL is North Gwinnett. They are sitting at 3-1 with their loss coming in a competitive game against Buford.
In the APS John Lewis and Bunche are headed for a matchup in the championship but that’s only if they can get past Long, King and a very underrated KIPP West Team
With the GMSAA realignment they have a chance to put two teams in the Championship Series. Milton is looking like the best team in the state as they are averaging 37 points a game. McEachern who at the time was a front runner before last week suffered a loss to Harrison as JD has come back from injury. He is trying to lead his team to a back to back GMSAA Championship and Harrison 2nd ever invite into the B2C Championship Series. Milton and McEachern play this weekend, it will be interesting to see if McEachern can bounce back from their loss and compete against a motivated Milton team. North Cobb is the best 1-3 team you will ever see as they have the athletes, they just have to put it together. If they make the playoffs no one is going to want to play them.
Austin Road had a big matchup last week against Woodland. Joshua Scott had a great game and helped lead his team to a big win. Now they are undefeated and in the drivers seat in Henry County but a big matchup is coming on October 5th as Ola Middle is undefeated as well and have now cracked the top 25.
In Dekalb Co. Cedar Grove looks really really good every game they have played so far has been over at the coin toss. Tucker and Salem are both playing well. We will find out this weekend just how good both teams are as they meet at the 50. Stephenson had a very good game against Chapel Hill this past weekend as their defense was outstanding and their running game was able to move the chains and pick up first downs and touchdowns.
Down in South GA they start their playoffs. Valdosta has dominated their middle school season and has a chance to be the first team to punch their ticket to the B2C Championship if everything works out in their favor.
Liberty has arguably one of the best running backs in the state as they look to win another county championship. Whitewater looked very good against previously undefeated Flat Rock. David Duru put his name on the B2C Player of the Year Watchlist with his great performance.
Eddie White is good and they have been the most dominant team in Clay Co for a couple of years but this year its a little different as BABB, North Clayton and Rex Mill all have a chance. BABB had a big win over Rex Mill 13-6. Rex Mill has arguably the best player in the county but BABB was able to hold on and win a very competitive game.
FairPlay is playing at a high-level in Douglas Co. they have one of the better coaching staffs in middle school football and they have an outside chance to make the B2C Championship Series. They will have to get through Chapel Hill first as those two teams are headed straight for each other.
Muscogee County will be the last school system to start as they will be starting their regular season soon.
