The Central Dekalb Jaguars are one of the most prominent programs in the southeast. Central Dekalb has a strong tradition of producing championship caliber squads under great coaches every season. Central Dekalb teams range from 5U to 14U competing in the Youth Football Alliance league. Elite teams at Central Dekalb compete in the ultra-competitive YFA Select Division against the best in the metro Atlanta area. Top collegiate players such as Duke Shelly, Dylan Wonnum, and Chauncey Rivers started with the Central Dekalb program before going onto power 5 schools later in their career. “We have a really good reputation of having good players and good coaches here”, said 8U Coach Valister Wilson. Coach Wilson will move up to the 8U YFA Select Team in 2018 after leading them as 7U semi-finalists last season
Coach Wilson’s team finished 7-3 last season coming up just short in the YFA Select semifinals. The Jaguars’ defense allowed only 4.5 points a game over the ten games. The rising 8U team is known for their offensive and defensive lines. Bryson Crawford and Jeremiah McGee serve as two of the best offensive lineman in the entire state of Georgia at the 8U division. “We’re big and really strong up front. We play well as a unit”, said Coach Wilson. “Kobe Parks is one of the best athletes in the city”, he added. “Kobe plays a little bit of everywhere for us. We have him as a defensive back and offensively he’ll play running back and we’ll even throw it to him. Carlos Wilson is a special player on the defensive line”, Coach Wilson added.
Central Dekalb’s 9U team last year made it to the YFA Championship Game last year finishing as the runner up. The 9U Jaguars lost an outstanding title game to DYJ 22-16. “They didn’t make a lot of mistakes”, said Coach Wilson. “They just played really well as a team all season long. They were able to stay in games and capitalize on other team’s mistakes. They were efficient on offense and defensively they were very strong.” said Coach Wilson.
“The 11U is going to be really special this year. I feel they were a player or two away last year after losing in the
semifinals, and I think they picked up those pieces”, said Coach Wilson. “I expect them to have one of the best linebacking cores in the league”. Defensively Ashton George is an impact player at linebacker. Savion Borders is a special athlete at DB and Keith Bass Jr will wreak havoc on the defensive line. Offensively the 11U Jaguars will be led by running back Kadence Redmond and offensive lineman Maurice Seals.
Central Dekalb has produced so many talented champions under great coaches like Mike Makins, Kerry Weaver, Daniel Mahoney, and Coach Wilson. “The Bad Boys”, aka the 2016 12U Central Dekalb team were one of the best in program history. They dominated the regular season and won the YFA Select Championship and the Frank Ski Bowl Championship under Coach Kerry Weaver.
Central DeKalb’s Davin Bellamy was a standout starting linebacker at the University of Georgia on last year’s Rose Bowl championship team. Bellamy is now a rookie in the NFL with the Houston Texans.
Some of the top prep players in the state of Georgia right now played at Central Dekalb growing up. Rising star Aaron McLaughlin is the starting quarterback at perennial power Buford High School after spending time under Coach Wilson at Central Dekalb. McLaughlin already has 29 division one offers heading into his sophomore season. Four star 2019 defensive back Javier Morton is an elite athlete for Stephenson High School that’s committed to the University of Alabama. Four star defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse played for years under Coach Wilson at Central Dekalb. Stackhouse is now committed to Georgia as one of the top defensive players nationally in the class of 2020.
