Daiquan White // Defensive Back // Class 2023
~ By Cody Butler
Daiquan White is ready to prove himself as one of the top defensive backs in the class of 2023 at North Clayton Middle School. White led the 12U Jonesboro Falcons to a Frank Ski Bowl run in December as a two way explosive player. While his future is shutting down receivers as a lockdown corner, his dynamic ability created playing time on offense as a running back and slot receiver. This fall White will be playing his first and only season of middle school football, but he’s ready to accept his last challenge before high school. White was named B2C All All-American twice in the last few years representing Jonesboro as one of the top athletes in his class.
This summer has been football all the time for Daiquan. White goes to practice for North Clayton, he trains afterwards as a DB individually with Glenn Ford, and he’s been competing in 7v7 events against the top players in Georgia and Florida. The desire to be great is there. He applies what he’s learning in training onto the field. His game is improving with each workout, practice, and rep. “My skills make me dynamic out there. My speed, my footwork, I got great hands so I can catch”, said White. “I love to be aggressive and jam receivers so they don’t get off the line. My technique continues to get better; I know what they’re going to run by how they line up”. In the playoffs last year with the 12U Falcons, White recorded three interceptions and returned two returned for touchdowns. His football IQ is off the charts at this level. The ability to recognize the play and act on it gives him the advantage over the receiver. White often plays on the opposing side of the field from the coaches because he doesn’t need anyone in his ear; he’s able to step up as a leader and voice out on the field.
White will represent Clayton County in the 8th grade Under Armour All America Game in January 2019 in Orlando. After showing out at the Under Armor camp series, Deion Sanders selected White as one of the top performers in the event. “It felt great to be acknowledged by a legend in the NFL. He played at my favorite school (FSU), so it was great to be recognized”, White told Born to Compete. “My favorite school is definitely Florida State. I’m grinding to get there right now. I love football, I love to be able to compete against other people and have fun with my teammates” he added. White attended the Florida State 7v7 event and met with legendary coach Bobby Bowden recently. He was able to walk the campus and attend the FSU spring game.
“I wear No. 2 because my dad wore that number in high school. I want to keep the tradition going with that number”, added White. North Clayton kicks off their 2018 middle school season on August 21st where Daiquan will be a key contributor on both sides of the ball.
