Dylan Lonergan – #8 Ranked QB in the Nation (Class of 2023)

Dylan Lonergan is one of the most promising athletes in Georgia for the class of 2023. Lonergan is an athletic quarterback with a big time arm. Lonergan has great size and athleticism for the position at 5’11, 160lbs. He played up for the 8th grade Mountain View team as a seventh grader last season. The son of a former professional quarterback, Lonergan has great football IQ. After a successful season playing up with Mountain View, Lonergan won the starting quarterback position for the 7th grade GFL team in the FBU National Tournament. Lonergan will play for the defending 8th grade GFL champion Brookwood this fall after making the transition in the spring.

Lonergan is a leader on the field. He knows the game well and carries a rare clutch gene needed to perform at the highest level with everything on the line. Twice in the final minutes last season Lonergan brought his team down the field for last minute touchdowns. Mountain View drove down the field and scored with thirty seconds left to defeat Collins Hill on a Lonergan touchdown pass. “It was a hitch and go route, I pump faked and hit my receiver down the field for the touchdown”, he explained. Lonergan also led his team on a late scoring drive to tie the game against Dacula.

“I’m working every day to improve my game”, Lonergan explained. “I need to get better at changing the play at the line of scrimmage, but that’s coming with experience”, he added. Lonergan is gaining experience over the summer competing in 7 on 7 tournaments.

The rising 8th grader has transitioned to Brookwood smoothly so far. Lonergan has thrown for 29 total touchdowns in his last two 7 on 7 tournaments. Most recently in Tucker the Brookwood 8th grade squad won the G7 Week 3 Tournament Championship 27-6. “I just high pointed the ball so only my receivers could get it and we kept scoring”, said Lonergan. He was named B2C Player of the Game for his performance at the tournament.

“I want to pass for 1500 yards and 17 touchdowns next year”, Lonergan said. “We play a minimum of eight games so I want to accomplish that. We’re trying to go deep in the playoffs and win another championship”, he added.

Lonergan was selected to participate in the Future Stars Game this July as one of the top prospects in Georgia for the class of 2023.

Alex Benson from Born To Compete says “Dylan has all the ability in the world to be a top QB once his recruiting starts.  I’ve had a chance to watch him play multiple times and his demeanor reminds me of Davis Mills (Stanford University).  He is very calm and seems to always be in control and that is one of the attributes a QB must have and he has it.”
