The Future Stars game has proven to be one of the more competitive all star football games in the country. Each year, it puts some of the best rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders from Florida and Georgia on the field against each other. The past couple of years have seen some great games, including the classic last year in the 8th grade division. This year should prove to be no different as the teams battle for state pride.
6th Grade
This game should go back and forth and just like all the rest of the 6th grade games it comes down to who can execute enough to limit the turnovers and who has the best player on the field as scoring is always rare in the 6th grade game. Florida is very talented and will compete to the very end but Georgia has the best player in 5″10, 190lb, Joseph McKay. The big RB/LB will dominate just as he is predicted to on offense and defense. What makes it even better is that Team Georgia has a great coaching staff and they will know how to get him the ball in multiple ways. Look for Joseph to have a big day and probably two long touchdowns as Team Georgia will win the game.
FINAL SCORE: Georgia 14 – Florida 7
7th Grade
Both Georgia and Florida are coming in with players that know how to play the game. Florida has some very good players on their squad and they will look to attack through the air as it is not a strength of Team Georgia. Team Florida will go to their big WR’s which includes last year’s MVP Jamari Pringle who set last year’s game on fire with his outstanding play. This game will be no different as those WR’s will put on a show come Saturday at 2PM.
Highlights from last year game with Jamari Pringle putting on a show
Georgia has arguably the #1 player in the country behind center in Harrison Bailey and he is the real deal. He will be efficient and move the chains. When he backs up to pass he will look to throw to Mike Robertson who can get it done multiple ways on the field.
On defense, both Defensive Lines will have to come to play. Florida will use their speed and quickness to create pressure and Georgia will use their brute strength to impact the running lanes for the running backs and change the launch point for their secondary to get a jump on the passes.
It’s going to be a very good game but Georgia comes out victorious in this game with a late drive by Harrison Bailey to win the game.
FINAL SCORE: Georgia 28 – Florida 21
8th Grade
This game has the potential to either be a dog fight or a blowout and if it is a blowout it will happen quick. Team Florida is loaded!!! Jonathan Ealey, Kenny McIntosh, James Cook, Tyler March, Anthony Solomon and the list goes on and on and on. They have a roster that probably will all be offered D1 Scholarships one day.
If it’s a blowout, Florida will score early and often. They have an amazing coaching staff that knows how to get the best out of the talent they have. James Cook is going to be phenomenal, so will Kenny McIntosh and Jonathan Ealey. All three of those players will be competing to see who will be MVP of the game.
For Georgia, they have to turn this game into a dog fight with downhill running on offense with Trevor Smith. Smith is a bull and he is the perfect RB to go against this speed as he will not go down easy. The other way is to hope to get big plays from Ray Thornton out wide. He is a big athletic WR who can make you come out of your seat.
On the Defense Team, Georgia will be able to battle and it will be up to them to turn the game into a dog fight as they have a great secondary and phenomenal DLine. Florida will eventually have to double somebody on that Dline. If it is Keiondre Jones or Nolan Smith, it will allow Xavier Billingsley to have a big day IF he can make the tackle. For Florida, they have a Dline that can change the line of scrimmage with Tyler Davis and Quashon Fuller but their strength will be the linebacker core led by Anthony Solomon who will be a tackling machine. In the secondary, its very possible that when they put Tyler March back there, he can come down with an interception or two because of his great hands.
In the end, if Georgia wants to keep it close, give the ball to Trevor Smith 25 times and hope for the big play from Ray Thornton on the outside then the game will be a two touchdown game still in favor of Florida but since this is an All Star game and everyone has to play that won’t happen. Final prediction is Florida will win big and it will be a party going on in the Florida stands by the end of the 3rd Quarter.
FINAL SCORE: Florida 35 – Georgia 14
