Bruce Price founder of Peak Performance has to be one of the more forward thinkers in America and I know you can say how is that? It’s very simple, he is building a model that most people don’t look to build when they start to approach sports and more importantly travel basketball. Does he want to have a team that is competitive every year on the court, of course he does. What he really wants to do is develop the next generation of empowered women and he is using sports as his vehicle.
Last year his program garnered national attention as his 7th grade team did very well in the AAU Nationals but to Coach Bruce this is something that they have been doing for years. Since day one Peak Performance has been committed to his girls by holding them accountable, pushing them to be their best and in return 61 of 80 girls that have come through his program has went to school on scholarship to play ball. Out of those young women Peak Performance understood that they had an opportunity not to only have a great relationship with the national basketball powers in college but they found a way to build a relationship with colleges that are consistently considered some of the better academic schools in the country. The truth is the same for women as it is for men as their are only so many available spots in professional basketball so an athlete must prepare themselves for life after sports no matter how good they are. So Coach Bruce not only decided to start building relationship with schools that had high academic requirements but he also started building relationships with companies to start not only an opportunity for his athletes to have a chance to get internships while they are in high school and college but more importantly he is building a pipeline for his ladies into Fortune 500 companies…WOW!! Smart guy!
Coach Bruce has very good talent on the court and as much as he wishes them all the success on the court he wishes them just as much success off the court. As he would say “these ladies are going to be futures wives, mothers, CEO’s, leaders of community and more importantly they are the future of America”.
All the academic talk is great and needed but at the end of the day you have to have results on the court and you MUST assist in getting these young ladies scholarships and that is what Peak Performance has went above and beyond doing. From the day you sign up with them they put you on what Coach Bruce says’ “Proper Exposure Path” and basically that means being so detailed and involved with your player that you aren’t waisting their time by doing anything that can hinder them from receiving a scholarship to pay for their school. That means putting the ladies in his leadership program, consistently pushing them to do well in school by providing them with various academic resources. Then to top that off a very detailed and extensive schedule to make sure that the ladies are playing not only at competitive tournaments but tournaments that offer the most exposure for the Peak Performance ladies or as Coach Bruce says “Peak Girls”.
With everything that is going in travel basketball and travel sports that has brought so much negative attention on youth sports is mind boggling. It is good to see one of the good guys stay persistent and diligent with his work. Now seeing it pay off with 61 out 80 young women signing scholarship speaks volumes to the way he is going about his business of raising young women in his program. I have a feeling that one day Coach Bruce desire to build something will grow nationwide from some big financial donation but it won’t come from the WNBA Superstar that Peak Performance will produce but instead it will probably come from a company that is well known and on the check it will be a huge number that will probably take his breathe away but what will bring him to tears is that the deal will be spearheaded by one of his Peak Girls.
