The next super athlete is from a town that has consistently put out talent every year but not a lot of people notice them and that is Columbus, GA. The Fort Middle School superstar Raylynn Thornton can do it all. It doesn’t matter the sport. It can be baseball, basketball or football. The kid is the real deal. An exciting player to watch in any sport he plays. In baseball he considered one of the best in the state. In basketball he is a pure athlete so he does a lot of things well on the court and in football he is a beast.
Coming off of injury this past year Raylynn was a bit worried about how he would do but just like his favorite professional athlete, Cam Newton he felt that he would be able to get through the injury and still be productive. Productive he was as he went out on the field and had two touchdowns including a punt when kicked he wasn’t sure if he should field it, after it bounced and rolled Ray instantly switched into beast mode as he picked up the ball, broke a couple of tackles, went down the middle of the field and took it to the house. I think it would be safe to say that Ray was back.
A Quarterback at heart but an athlete because of his God given ability Ray was able to be productive behind the center and after he came back from injury he was able to help the team at wide receiver. If you ask him he will make sure to tall you that he is a very good safety as well and that he can get the job done back there. Dare I say he puts me in the mindset of a young Torrance Gibson. Who we covered in the 8th Grade and instantly knew that young man would be not only a good player but a star
In baseball he is one of the most sought after names in the south as he can play first base and when he plays up an age group he mainly plays shortstop. With his speed he is able to cause the pitcher major stress as he is a threat to take a base at anytime on any pitcher. At the plate he can easily put the ball in the cheap seats and since this is youth sports we will just say that he will more than likely put the ball on your front window if you park to close.
In basketball last year he helped lead his team to the Muscogee County Middle School semifinals. This year he is not only looking to do the same but help Fort Middle School advance even farther and this time walk away with the county title.
When asked Raylynn about his offseason he said that he is prepared to go to as many camps as possible to get his name out there, we at Born To Compete believes he already is a big name but once he hits the High School camp circuit and they see his size, natural ability and swag as Raylynn puts it then we are very sure he will become the talk of the summer.
As far as what he would like to become beside a professional athlete? Raylynn said that he wants to own and operate a spring goods store. Like a Dicks’s Sporting Good or Academy Outdoors. Either way if things keep going the way they are going then Raylynn will be able to have enough money to buy whatever store he wants.
