LILBURN, GA — This year’s Georgia Middle School Track and Field Championships was full of great races and superior athletes. Some of the most exciting races of the track meet featured distance runner Sam Ellis (pictured in the end on the right).
Sam Ellis is an 8th grader who attends Renfroe Middle School, in Decatur, Georgia. His tall, lean build helps him leave his competition behind. With a final kick and finish that is top notch, Sam took home a gold medal in every event that he competed in, three total.
The mile (1600M) had a field of the best middle school athletes that Georgia had to offer. Although great in their own rights, they were no competition for Sam. Sam finished first with a time of 4:47.26.
The boys 800M was the most competitive and exciting race of the meet. The field was strong, the pace…record breaking. Sam did not disappoint, breaking the old meet record of 2:09.52 held by Brandon Hines of Stephenson Middle School, with a time of 2:06.11 and taking home another gold medal.
The 4x800M relay team for Renfroe Middle School featured Sam at anchor. Before Sam received the baton, the Renfroe Middle School team was behind the leader by at least 200 meters. Sam kicked it into high gear and lead his team to another gold medal.
Congrats to Sam Ellis on a great day of competition of the 2013 Georgia Middle School Track and Field Championships.
