Using Adversity As Motivation
Heavy adversity hit the 2028 RB Michael S. Martin II, but that didn’t deter him from maintaining his balance and keeping his eye on the field of life ahead.
That’s how the game of football can relate to life, and life can relate to the game of football.
Last season went well for Martin. He was in South Carolina, and even though they didn’t win every game, Martin led his team in all-purpose yards, rushing yards, and touchdowns (TDs). Martin also won the MVP award for his team back-to-back times.
Martin’s off-season was tough at first, as it was all new to him. Martin ran track to get faster, hoping it would translate to the gridiron. Martin and his family moved to Georgia in the off-season, and that’s when adversity met the family.
Martin’s grandmother passed away, marking a significant obstacle for him and his family. “It was hard for me and my family. I used that as motivation, and I worked extremely hard in the weight room to get bigger and stronger. I put on about 15 lbs. in the off-season. I trained a lot with my trainer, Walter Gary of Upper Echelon, to get ready for my season here in Georgia,” Martin said.
Martin’s season so far has been great. They are undefeated, and that is always good, considering that’s what the coaches like, and who doesn’t want to remain unbeaten?
Martin is the leading rusher on his team and also the TD leader. “My team has a team full of talent, so it’s a huge honor to be a leader on my new team,” says Martin.
Martin is looking to continue his leadership on and off the field and is excited about the task at hand. “My plans for my team this season are to go undefeated and hopefully get a chance to play in some type of postseason to show others around the state what we have. As an individual, my plans are to do whatever it takes to help my team win. If I do my best to help my team win, my individual goals should come too. I will just work hard and keep GOD FIRST in everything I do and thank Him for every opportunity I get,” says Martin.
Martin has faced adversity and is looking to build on that. He also seems to be putting all of this into a motivational factor and playing for his grandmother for sentimental reasons. Look for Martin to be a significant asset to his team in the future. A great young man on and off the field.
