Top Freshmen Performers | Week 2
We’re two weeks into the high school football season and we’ve seen plenty of freshmen see playing time at the varsity level. It’s never easy to make an impact as a freshman, but we’re seeing it happen more and more across the state/
Here are a few freshmen who had big performances in week two…
Julian Lewis – QB – Carrollton
The future 5-star gunslinger continues to shine and show the state of Georgia that the hype is real. A true dual-threat quarterback with elite arm talent, Lewis backed up his big high school debut with a massive week two performance, throwing for over 220 yards and 4 touchdowns in Carrollton’s 28-21 win over South Paulding. He took care of the football, made big throws when it mattered, and showed why he might be the best freshman quarterback in the country. Through two games, Lewis has thrown for 506 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Tyler Atkinson – OLB – Grayson
A young defender with 5-star talent, Atkinson continues to live up to the hype he generated entering his freshman season. A long, athletic linebacker who can get after the passer, Atkinson played like a veteran during Grayson’s big win over Eagles Landing, making play after play all night. The freshman phenom made 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 5 QB pressures and one pass breakup in week two of the season. He showed a great spin move on sack, and has a great motor when chasing after the ball-carrier. He’s getting better and better and already making a giant impact for one of the most talented teams in the state. He’s a freshman to keep an eye on for the remainder of the season and beyond.
Aaron Gregory – Augusta Christian School
One of the top young playmakers across the state, Gregory has made a giant impact in his first season so far and is coming off a giant week two performance. The athletic 6-foot-1 160-pounder is an impressive two-way player and already one of the best players in the region. He made big plays on both sides of the ball in week two, catching 4 passes on offense for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Gregory picked off a pass in the secondary, proving why he’s one of the more versatile players in the Augusta area. Look for him to get more and more opportunities to make plays throughout his freshman season.
Dylan Barber – Heritage
Another impressive dual-threat quarterback to know, the Newnan native is off to a great start in his freshman season, and he had a giant game in a week two win. Barber, an athletic quarterback with good size for his age at 6-foot-0 170-pounds, made impressive plays with both his arm and his legs over the weekend. As a passer, Barber went 12/16 for214 yards and three touchdowns through the air. As a runner, Barber rushed 4 times for 40 yards and two more scores. He shows a natural feel for the position and already shows playmaking ability for someone so young. He’s a starting freshman quarterback to keep a close eye on this season.
