Javin Cheek | Quarterback
Football, like most sports, is all about how you respond to adversity.
I first saw class of 2030 prospect Javin Cheek playing quarterback for his Orlando Elite team at DR7’s Kick Off in Florida tournament in January of 2022.
His team was facing Team Dimes in the 10u championship game. Cheek and his offense had several drives stall out to start the game as he was whistled for throwing the ball over the line of scrimmage.
Cheek was able to shake it off, albeit a little frustrating, and lock in to help lead his team to victory. It was one of several tournaments that he and his Orlando Elite team won during the 7v7 season, including winning Championship7v7’s national championship.
“It was a lot of fun, I had a team full of amazing athletes that have become brothers to me,” Cheek said. “We didn’t win them all but we made a name for ourselves and won some big tournaments.”
“I also enjoyed being coached by Coach [Robert] Weathers who used to play in the NFL.”
This fall, Cheek will be playing with the Central Florida Lions during the tackle season.
The summer was spent preparing for what is to come over these next few months.
“I have weekly QB training with coach Rod Rutherford, I go to speed and agility training and strength and conditioning training every week,” Cheek said. “I participated in multiple QB camps throughout the summer, I played flag football in two different Under Armour local leagues and was also invited and got to play in a Flag Football X Tournament at the Dallas Cowboys stadium.”
Cheek helped lead his team to six championships in the local Under Armour league. With Orlando Elite, he says his favorite memory was from a tournament in Texas.
“Even though we won a national championship, nothing tops going to Texas and winning the DR7 “Meet me in the H” tournament,” Cheek said.
In that tournament, Cheek and his team went 6-0 beating teams from Texas and Louisiana.
A fan of both Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, Cheek is hoping he can follow in his idol’s footsteps.
“I want to get better everyday as a quarterback and as a leader for my team,” Cheek said. “In the future I hope to be a five star recruit with D1 offers.”
