A Do It All Type Of Player | Cooper Melvin

Cooper Melvin C/O 2028 Cartersville ATH

Last season in 7th grade went as well as a season can for an athlete and for Melvin it went very well.

“We went 10-0 winning our region and our second straight GMSAA State Championship. Personally, I play multiple positions, LB, SS, Slot Receiver, RB, QB, Punter, and I feel like I improved in all of them on both sides of the ball.” Says Melvin.

Melvin is what some would call an “old school player” due to the fact that Melvin really does it all on the gridiron. Playing multiple positions really isn’t a simple thing to do but Melvin does it and he does it well.

“For me, there isn’t really an pff-season. I do a lot of strength and agility training plus 7v7. I also put a lot of focus on nutrition and was able to gain 20 pounds which really helped, especially at my MLB position. As a team our season overall was successful. However, we didn’t achieve our goal of winning 3 straight GMSAA State Championship. We beat North Cobb in the regular season but lost to North Cobb  in the championship game. The goals I set at the beginning of the season are not about touchdowns and tackles, they’re more about developmental things like leadership, improving my football IQ and strength & speed. I feel like I made improvements in all those things and it definitely helped my game on the field.” Says Melvin.

Melvin is a very discipline player and takes it very seriously and it shows on the field.

“I think the most important thing we can do as the incoming 2028 class is too learn how to maintain and raise the standard in a program that sets the bar very high year after year. Next season (freshman year) has already started for me personally. I’ve been lifting and doing speed and agility training at Cartersville high school. The main goal is to continue to learn from the coaches and upper class men and develop mentally and physically so I’m ready to compete with the big guys and get some Friday night reps at the varsity level. The Cartersville FB program has a great coaching staff who’ll push me to be my best. Im excited for the next fours years as a Purple Hurricane and would love to make a few trips to the Benz before my time in high school is done. Go Canes!” Melvin stated.
