Nothing is too big for AJ Marks. A cornerback playing his first season of high school football at St. Mary’s Prep in Michigan, Marks has not been phased one bit. “Honestly, I’ve been going against high school competition since 6th grade, so I’ve always been going against people bigger than me, stronger than me, taller than me, faster than me, so I had to adjust to that when I was a little younger,” Marks said. “It clicked instantly because I was already used to it.”

Standing at 5’9, Marks refuses to let his size get in the way. While most of his matchups have a few inches on him, Marks makes up for it with speed, smarts and swagger. “I know their tendencies, what they like to do, how they play against 5’9 corners like me,” he said. Marks  is a top track athlete and when watching him play, it’s clear that he doesn’t back down from any challenges, rather, he embraces them.

Similar to Marks, St. Mary’s Prep has punched above their weight this season. Despite being a young team in a rebuilding period, St. Mary’s has competed well throughout their season, and has the chance to to keep advancing through the playoffs with a win over Goodrich.  Marks is happy with how the season has progress for he and his team, and set a big goal for himself for the next season. “I want to make All-State in Michigan,” he said.

While he’s only a freshman, many colleges have already set their eyes on Marks, including offers from Bowling Green and EKU. He’s had numerous college visits, with the most recent being Central Michigan on October 8th. His dream school? Marks narrowed it down to three: LSU, Oregon or Texas A&M.

AJ Marks has been playing football since he was 3 years old, and has no plans of stopping anytime soon. In order to help Marks reach his goal of playing high-level football, his father Alton created the website https://www.iamajmarks.com/. “My dad just wanted to give me more exposure,” he said. “It’s kind of hard for people at my age and my size to get exposure.” The website follows his academic and athletic pursuits, giving him a platform to reach his big dreams. And while his dreams are big, nothing is too big for AJ Marks.
