Demitri Knows: Two Sport Star Demitri Griffin Is One Of The Nation’s Top Young QBs
Playing quarterback for Ben Hill’s 12U division, Demitri Griffin knows football. Demitri Griffin knows baseball too, playing as a middle infielder and centerfielder for Perfect Game and 9th Inning Baseball.
While Bo Jackson may be the most prominent two-sport athlete, plenty of quarterbacks have honed their skills on the gridiron and diamond. Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, even Tom Brady all have baseball backgrounds. Griffin is no exception.
Baseball has helped Griffin become a better quarterback. “I would say my throws of the football are getting a little better,” said Griffin. “My footwork is getting a little better as well.”
His improvements have shown. Griffin was named Born to Compete’s Player of the Game in a 26-0 win over Stonecrest, GA in September. “I was just focused on getting consistent throws,” he said. “Making sure I was on point with all my throws and making sure they would get to the right spot.”
Demitri Griffin can make all the throws, whether he’s standing in the pocket or buying time with his legs. When watching him play, it’s easy to draw the line between shortstop and quarterback. One player Griffin models his game after is Patrick Mahomes, citing his ability to throw outside the pocket and on the run.
Ben Hlil has been off to a hot start, riding a perfect 4-0 record into October. They’re the reigning MAYFL Champions, and have big hopes for this season. “We’re trying to get back to the championship this year,” said Griffin. Ben Hill have a big game with Fayetteville looming, a rematch of last year’s championship. With one championship under his belt and the hunger for more, Demitri Griffin knows winning too.
Frank Ski Youth Bowl/B2C State Championship Series is November 26/27 for the 12U Division.
